Pearls lets you record, schedule, and deliver time-locked video messages to yourself, loved ones, and the public. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, how we use and share it, how long we keep it, your rights, and how to reach us.

Plain language summary: We collect information to run and improve Pearls, protect users, and meet legal obligations. You can access, correct, or delete your data, and you have additional rights depending on where you live (e.g., GDPR in the EEA/UK, CCPA/CPRA in California).

 

1) Scope & Who We Are

This Policy applies to our mobile apps, websites, features, software, and related services (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

  • Data Controller: My Little Pearls LLC, Georgia, USA

  • Global coverage: We process data globally and transfer it to the U.S. and other countries where we and our service providers operate.

 

2) What We Collect

We collect information in three ways: (a) you provide it; (b) we collect it automatically; (c) we get it from others (e.g., a friend who sends you a Pearl).

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Account & Profile: name, username, email/phone, password, photo, bio, preferences.

  • Content: videos, images, audio, text, captions, comments, reactions, shares, and Time-Locked Messages (including the scheduled unlock date).

  • Contacts/Recipients: when you address a Pearl to specific recipients (name/handle/contact info).

  • Reports & Requests: abuse reports, support requests, verification submissions, appeals, and forms.

  • Consent choices: privacy settings, notifications, cookie choices, age/parental consent (where applicable).

2.2 Information We Collect Automatically

  • Usage & Device: app version, device model, OS, language, IP address, time zone, diagnostic/crash data, performance metrics, and feature interactions.

  • Log & Interaction Data: when you open the app, watch or send a Pearl, follow/unfollow, search, or change a setting.

  • Approximate Location: inferred from IP address for fraud prevention, localization, and legal compliance (we don’t collect precise GPS unless you explicitly enable a feature that needs it).

2.3 Information From Others

  • Recipients & Senders: people may send you Pearls or mention you; we process your handle and delivery status.

  • Service Providers: analytics, anti-abuse, cloud hosting, and customer support vendors provide derived or aggregated signals.

  • Lawful Disclosures: law enforcement or regulators may send us requests; we process the minimum necessary to comply.

 

3) Why We Use Your Information (Purposes & Legal Bases)

We process your data to:

  1. Provide the Service (account, creation, storage, delivery, playback—including Time-Locked Messages).

    • Legal bases: contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR), legitimate interests, consent where required.

  1. Safety & Integrity (detect/remove abuse, spam, malware; protect minors; prevent fraud/impersonation).

    • Legal bases: legitimate interests (safety), legal obligation, vital interests in emergencies.

  1. Personalization & Discovery (suggest accounts, features, and content you might like).

    • Legal bases: legitimate interests; consent where required.

  1. Communications (service announcements, security alerts, changes to terms/policies).

    • Legal bases: contract, legitimate interests, legal obligation.

  1. Research & Improvement (analytics, product development, quality, accessibility).

    • Legal bases: legitimate interests; consent for certain analytics in the EEA/UK if required.

  1. Advertising & Sponsored Content (future) (show relevant commercial content; provide aggregated insights).

    • Legal bases: legitimate interests; consent where required by law. We do not sell information that directly identifies you.

  1. Legal & Compliance (comply with subpoenas/court orders, enforce terms, manage disputes).

    • Legal bases: legal obligation; legitimate interests.

 

4) Time-Locked Messages: Storage, Delivery, Deletion

  • Storage until unlock: We store Time-Locked Messages securely until your scheduled unlock time.

  • Deletion before unlock: You can delete a message before it unlocks; we will remove it from active systems (see retention below).

  • After delivery: Recipients may view, copy, save, or share your content. We cannot control recipient actions once delivered.

  • Moderation: For safety and legal reasons, Pearls may use automated tools (and, where necessary, human review) before or after unlock to detect policy violations (e.g., child safety, threats, or illegal content).

 

5) How We Share Information

We share data only as needed to operate the Service or when legally required:

  • Service Providers / Processors: cloud hosting, storage, analytics, security, email/SMS providers, content delivery networks, payment processors (if applicable). Bound by contracts and confidentiality.

  • Other Users: content you choose to share (public, followers, recipients), profile basics (username, photo).

  • With Your Direction: integrations or features you connect (e.g., you export a video).

  • Legal & Safety: comply with laws, enforce terms, protect our users and platform, respond to lawful requests.

  • Business Transfers: merger, acquisition, restructuring—your data may transfer under equivalent protections.

We do not sell information that directly identifies you. We may provide aggregated/de-identified insights (e.g., counts, trends).

 

6) International Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in the U.S. and other countries. Where required (e.g., EEA/UK), we use Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or comparable safeguards. You can request a copy of relevant transfer protections at hello@pearls.social (some parts may be redacted for confidentiality).

 

7) Retention: How Long We Keep Data

We keep data only as long as necessary for the purposes above, then delete or de-identify it.

  • User-deleted content: Deletion begins within ~30 days and generally completes within up to 90 days for active systems, plus up to an additional 90 days for backups/DR, unless retention is required for safety, legal, or fraud-prevention reasons.

  • Accounts: When you delete your account, we start removal from active systems, then from backups, on similar timelines.

  • Legal/Safety Holds: We may retain specific data where deletion would prevent investigation, harm prevention, or legal compliance—only for as long as necessary.

 

8) Your Rights & Choices

Your rights depend on your location. Subject to legal limits and verification, you may:

  • Access a copy of your personal data.

  • Correct inaccurate data.

  • Delete data (subject to lawful exceptions).

  • Portability (receive data in a usable format).

  • Object / Restrict certain processing (e.g., personalization).

  • Withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.

  • Appeal certain automated moderation decisions where required.

 

How to exercise: In-app tools (as available) or email hello@pearls.social. We will verify your identity and respond within the timeframe required by law.
California: You have CCPA/CPRA rights (access, delete, correct, know, limit use of sensitive data, opt-out of “sharing” for cross-context ads if introduced). We do not sell personal information.
EEA/UK: You can contact your data protection authority. We will honor GDPR rights and legal bases as listed above.

 

9) Children & Teens

Pearls is not for children under 13. If we learn we collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it. Teens (13-17) should use Pearls with parental guidance. Certain features may be age-gated or have stricter defaults for minors. Report under-age accounts to hello@pearls.social.

 

10) Security

We use technical and organizational measures to protect your data (encryption in transit, access controls, logging, backups, least-privilege practices). No system is perfectly secure. You are responsible for safeguarding your credentials and using updated devices/software.

 

11) Cookies & Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar tech for login, security, preferences, analytics, and (in future) advertising measurement. In regions where required, we’ll provide a consent banner and granular choices. See our Cookies Notice for details.

 

12) Automated Decision-Making & Profiling

We use automated systems to personalize content discovery and to detect policy violations (spam, malware, child safety, fraud, threats). Where required, you may request human review or object/appeal certain impactful decisions.

 

13) Changes to This Policy

We’ll update this Policy as needed. We’ll notify you in-app or by other reasonable means if changes are material. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the changes.
